What are major contributors of addictive personality disorder? When one turns to alcohol, drugs, or food for comfort, what leads them to think that these things will bring them comfort, even if only temporarily?

i have found that its a need to escape that can do this. I use to think i had an addictive personality.. and hel maybe i do.. But i am controlling it. But i noticed in people i know whom very much do.. they have a need to remove them selves from their life.. by any way possible.. it does get scary!
